Biography

Zaïneb Hamdi (1989) is a Belgian poet, author and performer.

She published her first poetry book, Fils d'Arabe (Son of Arab), in 2017 (Tétras Lyre Publishing House). Various publications, print and digital, followed, in Belgian and French journals and anthologies.

Her writings explore, not without a hint of humour, alterity in the face of socio-political movements, her place as a woman and ‘daughter of Arab’, and her relationship with masculinities, the body(ies) and language.

Her performative work puts her poetry texts on stage and in orality, combining multiple forms (spoken words, recitation, one-woman show) and has been presented at Maison Poème, La Bellone, Beursschouwburg and Palais de Tokyo, among others.

She is currently co-creating Ḥoub with musician Soumaya Phéline Abouda, a multiform performance where recitation/spoken words and turntablism come together.

She studied Typography, Bookbinding and Book Design at La Cambre, and teaches these disciplines. She co-founded the 3 Studio workshop in 2015, followed by the Au Charbon association in 2023, which promotes female entrepreneurship in design and arts and crafts.

All her poetic work reflects her affinity for the book as an object, through meticulous graphic compositions and typographic choices.

Her second poetry book, Où mon amour sera ḥoub (L'Arbre de Diane, 2024), won Les Grenades literary prize in 2025 and was awarded by the sponsor prize, for a work of poetry.
